Community Statement Against Fracking In our Ecosystem - UpRiver Environment Watch[edit]

Community Statement to Stop Natural Gas Exploration and Extraction (2012) =====


We hereby inform all persons and organizations that:


• We agree that the risks from natural gas or oil exploration and extraction as well as the extraction of water from sources within and connected to Kent County for use in natural gas exploration and extraction are unacceptable.


• Our community considers any individual or corporation that engages or intends to engage in natural gas or oil exploration or extraction to be criminals that intend to commit assault upon our homes, our health, future generations and our right to protect ourselves.


Our community is asserting our right to demand;

• An immediate halt to any individual or corporation engaging in exploration and extraction of natural gas or oil using the processes variously known as hydraulic fracturing, unconventional oil and gas drilling and exploration, horizontal drilling, hydro-fracking and fracking;


• An immediate halt to any individual or corporation from engaging in the extraction of natural gas or oil utilizing in whole or in part the process commonly known as horizontal gas well drilling;


Our community further declares:


• That we are prepared to take legal action against any corporations attempting to or engaging in natural gas exploration and extraction in our community ecosystem for any harm caused to people, wildlife, natural water sources and ecosystems in our communities;


• Our community asserts our fundamental and non-negotiable rights to a healthy environment, drinking water and also the rights of natural communities and ecosystems;


• Our community further proposes a Local Bill of Rights for all communities affected by and reliant on the our local water sources and connected ecosystems.


• Our residents in unincorporated rural areas are without satisfactory local representation. We declare our community residents to be sovereign, with absolute rights to decide how to protect our health, natural environment and best interests;


• We declare corporations to be subordinate to community residents;


• We declare that corporations are not persons and do not have the same rights as community members.
